Yordanka Beleva

Yordanka Beleva was born in 1977. She has a degree in Bulgarian philology and is a doctor of library and information sciences. She is the author of the poetry collections Peignoirs and Boats (2002), Her (2012), and Missed Moment (2017), as well as of the short story collections The Sea Level of Love (2011), Keys (2015), Keder (2018), and Porcupines Come Out at Night (2022). Yordanka’s stories and poems have been translated into English, French, Spanish, German, Turkish, Arabic, and Croatian, and anthologized in multiple collections. She has been a finalist in and a recipient of multiple national awards for both poetry and prose. Several of her stories have been made into award-winning films.

“Der verpasste Moment” markiert eine Lücke: in unserem Leben und Lieben, in Zeit und Raum und nicht zuletzt in der Sprache. Yordanka Belevas lakonische Lyrik schließt die Lücken nicht, sondern füllt sie: mit Erinnerungen und Erzählungen. Die Held:innen dieses Dazwischen sind die bulgarischen Großeltern, aber auch der reitende Kurier im Italo-Western oder das philippinische Zimmermädchen in einem italienischen Hotel. Yordanka Beleva legt ihre Gedichte wie Wundverbände auf unsere Verlusterfahrungen, mal nostalgisch, mal bitter, mal hoffnungsfroh.
